Monterrey, N.L.- The city of Monterrey, N.L. was chosen as the venue for the 70th World Foundry Congress 2012, an event belonging to the World Foundry Organization (WFO), which has been organizing this itinerant event around the world for 140 years, making Mexico the first country in Latin America to host the Congress. The event will be held from April 25 to 27 in the city of Monterrey, N.L., where we expect the participation of more than 4 billion dollars.L., where we expect the participation of more than 4,500 professional visitors to the exhibition area; 1,500 national and international congress attendees; as well as 300 exhibiting companies, including international pavilions from Germany, Brazil, Egypt, Spain, India, Italy, Turkey, among others," said Alejandro Anchondo Perez, General Director of WFC2012.
The foundry industry in Mexico has more than 1,500 companies, 90% of which are SMEs that manufacture different types of parts, from the simplest to monoblocks, which are for export, as well as various types of metals such as steel, iron, aluminum and copper, among others. "To achieve the headquarters, since 2002 the Mexican Foundry Society (SMF) and the government of the State of Nuevo Leon began an arduous lobbying process before the World Foundry Organization. In 2006, representatives of CANACINTRA, took up the process again to demonstrate the importance of this sector for the country, which contributes more than 4 billion dollars to the economy", commented Rodrigo Alpizar, President of the World Foundry Congress and Vice-President of the Metal-Mechanical sector of CANACINTRA.
In addition, Alpizar Vallejo pointed out that "the foundry market is made up of the automotive industry, 78%; agricultural machinery, 8.3%; general industry, 3.9%; valves and fittings, 1.8%; machinery, 3%; and other sectors, 5%. Eight Mexican states (Estado de México, Jalisco, Distrito Federal, Nuevo León, Guanajuato, Coahuila, Chihuahua and Puebla) account for 68.6% of the sector". The annual production of metal in Mexico is approximately one million 523 thousand tons, of which 72 thousand tons correspond to steel; 818 thousand tons of iron; and 633 thousand tons of aluminum. Two definitive attractions for Monterrey to win the venue were the Steel Museum and the Fundidora Park, which are natural scenarios for an international congress of this industry.
As well as the series of conferences on foundry processes and the latest in innovation and technology," said Anchondo Perez. In addition, with the development of the World Foundry Congress, it is expected that this year the State of Nuevo Leon will be positioned as the most important center in the area of metal products, and that together with States such as Coahuila and Tamaulipas, there will be a large cluster that will attract new national and international investors
