Mexico's automotive exports grew at an interannual rate of 2.6% in 2024, concluding a streak in which they grew at double-digit rates in the previous three years, according to Inegi data. With this increase, these sales reached 193.907 billion dollars and represented 31.4% of Mexico's total product exports.
This proportion also ended a two-year upward trajectory in terms of the automotive industry's relevance in Mexico's total foreign sales: it rose from 28.3% in 2021 to 28.6% in 2022 and then climbed to 31.9% in 2023, its historical maximum.
Despite this lower dynamism, automotive exports continue to grow faster than the Mexican economy. It is worth remembering that the average growth of the latter throughout 2024 was 1.3%, in real terms and seasonally adjusted figures, according to the timely estimate of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) released by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Among the most relevant items in Mexican exports to the United States, most of them have been classified as shipments of complex goods, since they are concentrated in the automotive, machinery and equipment, and also in electronic devices sectors.
