Agricultural sector continues to grow exports in 2024

During the first quarter of 2024, Mexican exports of the agricultural sector registered a year-on-year growth of 4.3%, according to figures from Inegi (National Institute of Statistics and Geography).

Michoacán was positioned as the entity that generated the most value from agricultural exports, with a total of 1.306 billion dollars.

Michoacán, the avocado producer par excellence, is also the entity that generates the highest value for agricultural exports in the country. Between January and March 2024, it exported a total of 1.306 billion dollars in agricultural products. In addition, international shipments of avocados stand out in this state, but also strawberries, blackberries and lentils.

Sinaloa and Sonora completed the top three entities with the highest level of agricultural exports, with a total generated of 1.034 and 563 million dollars, respectively.

Other entities that made the top 10 were Jalisco, Baja California, Guanajuato, Chihuahua, Tamaulipas, Veracruz and Chiapas.

Despite the progress achieved by the agricultural export sector, it faces significant challenges: organized crime, climate conditions and public policies are some of them.
