The pandemic-related crisis has led to a drop in sales in 2020-2021, but for Italian manufacturers of machines, equipment and molds for plastics and rubber - 170 of which are represented by Amaplast, the industry association - Mexico remains a top destination.

In the first nine months of 2021, exports exceeded 60 million euros. Moreover, the Latin American country is almost constantly among the top ten markets for Italian exports in the sector (reaching third position in 2016), with anaverage growth rate of 4% over the last decade.

According to estimates by the local association ANIPAC, Mexico's plastics industry accounts for 5% of the country's manufacturing GDP. Downstream companies number approximately 3,600, with a workforce of more than 190,000 employees.

Its close commercial ties with the United States are a further element of attention for Italian companies, as this market is showing significant signs of growth, with demand increasingly oriented towards cutting-edge and, above all, environmentally friendly technologies.

It isno coincidence that one of the central themes of the specialized exhibition Plastimagen 2022 (Mexico City, March 8-11) is that of thecircular economy. More than 20 Italian companies will take part in the collective exhibition - coordinated by Amaplast and the first European one by extension, with more than 370 m² - to present their own technologically advanced solutions, which make it possible to produce parts with lower energy consumption, also using bio-based materials and low environmental impact, as well as to recycle post-consumer plastics in order to obtain secondary raw materials.
