The initiative is part of the Technology Days project that involves the entire ICE Agency network in the U.S. and consists of a series of interventions, including four other missions in as many areas of the country, to promote Italian technology offerings.
The Technology Days mission in June, in particular, will stop in both Detroit (MI) and Chicago (IL), pillars of American manufacturing. The mission program, curated by Machines Italia USA, will consist of visits to manufacturing plants and meetings with large American manufacturing companies.
As part of the mission, a conference is scheduled for June 26 in Detroit, focusing on the current state, prospects and challenges of the advanced manufacturing and robotics sector with a particular focus on the automotive sector.
Participation in the mission will allow Italian operators to directly verify the level of technology and the characteristics of the demand for machine tools and capital goods and acquire elements to evaluate a possible commercial and/or production expansion in the U.S. market. Another important objective of the initiative is to provide concrete opportunities to develop partnerships and commercial, technological and industrial synergies, which are essential to succeed in a complex and very competitive market like the American one.
Italy's exports to the U.S. of machine tools amounted to about $390 million in 2016 with a compound annual rate of change declining by 3.5 percent over the 2013-2016 period. Italy, with a 7.7 percent market share, is the third-largest U.S. supplier in the sector behind Japan and Germany, which control 36 percent and 16 percent of U.S. imports of metalworking technology, respectively.
