In the framework of the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Italy, the head of the Ministry of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard Casuabon, and his counterpart, Italian Minister Alfonso Urso, inaugurated the first edition of the Mexico-Italy Business and Investment Forum.
It was an event that brought together Mexican and Italian ministers, businessmen and investors to increase opportunities for strategic collaboration in crucial sectors for the economy of both countries.
The Mexican Chamber of Commerce in Italy (CaMexItal) in collaboration with the Embassy of Mexico in Italy, organized four thematic panels on the most strategic sectors for trade relations between Italy and Mexico, such as industrial parks; automotive; pharmaceutical and biotechnology; sustainable infrastructure and energy transition, where the main industrial players that constantly invest in Mexico, such as Isopan, Pirelli, Grupo Tesi, Grupo SIFI, among others.
During his virtual intervention, the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, mentioned that Mexico and Italy share a legacy of cooperation that has been consolidated over the years and by a growing economic integration that has opened new opportunities in key sectors such as railways, manufacturing, technology, tourism, gastronomy, fashion, and renewable energies.
Bilateral trade has grown steadily, increasing at an average annual rate of 17 percent from 2021 to 2023, which is reflected in a constant exchange of goods and services. It is also remarkable how the Mexico-Italy Chamber of Commerce increased its membership exponentially, from 9 in 2020 to 100 in 2024, which makes this link an important reference in the economic relationship and business promotion between both countries.
During the meeting it became clear that Italian companies, with their vast knowledge and innovative capacity, play a key role in the development of strategic sectors in Mexico and have shown increased interest in making investments and co-investments in Mexico. At the same time, Mexican companies find in Italy a market with great demand and opportunities to expand their products and services. This forum is an important bridge to promote these new possibilities for collaboration.
