Recently, the Mexican Government announced a historic investment of more than 27 billion pesos to modernize six strategic ports, including the integration of the Port of Acapulco into the ambitious Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (CIIT). This project seeks to position Mexico as a key player in global logistics, offering an efficient alternative to the Panama Canal.
The modernization of the ports will be complemented by a rail network and a multimodal transportation system that will connect the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through a 303-kilometer route. In addition, industrial parks and development poles will be developed in Veracruz, Oaxaca and Chiapas, boosting job creation and strengthening the regional economy.
“The logistics boost represented by the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (CIIT) is a strategic opportunity to position Mexico as a global hub for trade and transportation. The modernization of key ports, such as Acapulco, and the integration of a rail and multimodal network will strengthen our logistics infrastructure, optimizing times and costs in supply chains,” said José Ambe, CEO of LDM.
He also indicated that in a business environment where cash flows are reduced and consumers demand immediacy, efficiency in connectivity is essential.
“This megaproject will not only facilitate nearshoring and the relocation of companies, but will also consolidate Mexico as a key logistics hub between Asia, America and Europe, taking advantage of our geographic position to maximize the value of global production chains”.
