Due to the dynamism of construction, Oaxaca registered the highest annual growth in industrial activity in the country with 14.1% during September 2024, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
This performance is related to the works of the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, which has significantly boosted the local economy, especially in sectors such as construction and infrastructure modernization.
This economic dynamism is expected to continue in the coming years, as the corridor is still under development and is expected to take at least two years to complete.
During 2024, except for the month of February, the entity has maintained a steady growth in its manufacturing activity levels, mostly in the months of May, June, and July with double-digit growth ranging from 22% to 15% year-over-year increases.
This entity was followed by Guerrero with 11.5%, Guanajuato with 11.3% and Zacatecas with 9.3% year-over-year growth in its industrial activity in September. In the case of Guerrero, this performance is explained by the increase in the generation, transmission, distribution, and commercialization of electric energy, water supply, and natural gas through pipelines to the final consumer, a sector that showed notable progress in the state, contributing to the industrial dynamism observed.
Guanajuato continues to stand out for its solid performance in the manufacturing industries; its growth is due to the boom in the production and export of vehicles, auto parts, and machinery, key sectors of the local economy, where the attraction of foreign investment and the consolidation of efficient supply chains have been fundamental to this performance.
Additionally, the entity showed 20% growth in September construction over 2023. The entity has had steady increases since January 2024, with August and September in double digits.
Zacatecas' industrial growth is largely due to the dynamism of mining activity, which increased 30.3% during September, as well as growth in the metal-mechanical industries, and in the electric power, water, and natural gas sectors.
