Trends in equipment and machinery for the mailing and packaging industry will be the focus of Expo Pack 2023

From June 13 to 15 in Guadalajara, over 700 companies will be taking part, with machinery and equipment in action. "There's no other place in Mexico where you can see machinery like this, because leading manufacturing countries like Italy, Germany and the USA will be present. With the theme of nearshoring, entrepreneurs have a market opportunity to produce machinery and capital goods in Mexico that will enable them to increase their competitiveness in all sectors. In addition, the market trends for Expo Pack 2023 are sustainability, automation and digitization to become eco-friendly and profitable companies, offering better, high-quality products."

On the other hand, Celia Navarrete stressed that Mexico has an important role to play in promoting women in the manufacturing industry. That's whyExpo Pack 2023 will include forums for discussion and awareness-raising on the integration of more women in all sectors, to inspire and attract more women into careers in the social and solidarity economy.

Jonás Murillo, Managing Director of the Cámara Nacional de la Industria de Conservas Alimenticias (Canainca), recalled that the entire industry has always been confronted with one type of packer.

"There are many forms of packaging, whether paper, plastic, cardboard or plastic, to ensure that the product is delivered on time and to the right place. Canaica groups together food processing companies, processes over 80 million tons of food a year and has a production close to 280,000 million pesos, 15% of which is destined directly for export, the main market being the United States with almost 85% and the remaining 15% being distributed in Latin America and Europe".

Mr. Murillo recalled that, during the pandemic, investment in the industry did not decline. Although the production of new equipment has fallen, the maintenance of existing equipment has increased.

Jorge Maquita, managing director of theAsociación Mexicana de Envase y Embalaje (AMEE), said the packaging and embalming industry grew by 3.4% last year and is expected to reach four times that figure next year. "This is organic growth with GDP, but one way or another, the trend towards innovation will help further."

The sector accounts for 1.4% of GDP nationally and 9% of manufactured GDP nationally. It is an industry that employs almost 98,000 people nationwide, in the cardboard, madeira, plastic, metal and plastic sectors. In 2022, the value of mail and packaging production was $21,280 million.

"El empaque tiene un papel primordial en la venta de los productos, protección, y nos hace falta la parte de la experiencia como país productor", finalizó Maquita.

mexico's packaging and shipping industry is experiencing 25% growth over 2022 in demand for packaging and processing machinery and equipment.

"In this edition of Expo Pack 2023, the market we are most interested in is the western region of the country, for the food and beverage industry, as only 20% of production takes place in Jalisco. As for the 25% growth, this is dictated by the replacement of machinery by innovation and automation; in addition, we are forecasting 27% growth in production in more than 40 of the country's productive sectors."
