HARVESTING INNOVATION: KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM THE ITALY AGTECH ROADSHOW

Dear Readers,

Contrary to its reputation of a very traditional industry, technological advancements are transforming Canadian agriculture. Innovations such as precision agriculture tools and techniques are enabling farmers to enhance productivity, manage costs, and adopt more sustainable farming practices. As a consequence, farmers can better meet market demands and address environmental challenges.

While Italy is widely known for its food products and consumer goods, the country also ranks among the top producers and exporters of advanced farming technology, including machinery and equipment for the agricultural and horticulture sectors.

Both factors contributed to set the stage for the Italy AgTech Roadshow 2024, showcasing representatives from 15 Italian companies. The Italian Trade Commission (ITC) was proud to put this innovative and determined group under the spotlight.

I am delighted to share highlights from this event, which took place in September 2024 and spanned multiple locations across Ontario and Quebec.

From Bradford to Montreal, the roadshow allowed participants to engage with a diverse array of agricultural technologies. The featured companies excelled in a wide range of products, including specialized and compact tractors, turf equipment and essential components for agricultural machinery. Canadian importers, distributors and farmers met along this exciting trip were introduced to advanced mechatronic solutions, as well as crucial implements such as spading machines, aerators, and rotary subsoilers.

A standout moment of the roadshow was our presence at Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show in Woodstock, Ontario, on September 10th and 11th. The Business Lounge buzzed with activity as visitors had the opportunity to meet with Italian manufacturers, learn about Italy’s agricultural technology landscape, and explore potential collaborations. Our networking aperitivo event on September 10th further enriched these interactions, fostering connections between Canadian farmers, distributors, local authorities and members of the press on one side and the Italian delegation on the other.

Additionally, we were pleased to host two well attended networking events in collaboration with the Economic Development Service of the Niagara Region and the Centre local de développement de Brome-Missisquoi, showcasing our commitment to connecting innovators with the Canadian agricultural community.

As part of our efforts to facilitate ongoing engagement, we introduced Cassa Depositi e Prestiti's Business Matching platform, an innovative tool that fosters connections among +over 15,000 suppliers and buyers from Italy and around the world. A webinar and a series of B2B meetings were held, which included attendees from the Roadshow a few weeks after its conclusion.

I would like to extend my thanks to everyone who joined us during the roadshow and to staff who contributed to its success. We look forward to continuing our journey together and exploring the vast opportunities that lie ahead in the AgTech sector.

Warm regards,
