From January to October of this year, Mexico's seaports mobilized more than 1 million 952 thousand vehicles, representing a growth of 3.4% compared to the same period of 2023. Most of these units corresponded to exports, according to the statistical report of the General Coordination of Ports and Merchant Marine.
The Port of Veracruz consolidated as the leader in commercial activity, handling 721,174 vehicles, followed by the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, with 578,498 units, and the Port of Altamira, Tamaulipas, with 426,385 vehicles.
By regions, the statistics show that the ports located in the Pacific region, which includes Ensenada, Mazatlán, Manzanillo, Lázaro Cárdenas and Acapulco, handled a total of 725,231 vehicles. In contrast, the Gulf-Caribbean region, comprising Altamira, Tampico, Tuxpan, Veracruz and Progreso, handled more than 1,227,000 units, reaffirming its relevance in the country's maritime trade.
This increase in the mobilization of vehicles reflects the strengthening of the automotive sector in Mexico, in addition to the efficiency and capacity of the ports to meet the growing demand of international trade.
It also promotes the development of national logistics, driven by investments in infrastructure and technology that improve competitiveness.
