After more than three decades at the helm, Alfredo Mariotti is stepping down as General Manager of UCIMU-Sistemi per Produrre, Italy’s national association representing machine tool, robot, and automation manufacturers. The leadership transition marks a historic shift for the organization, with Davide Della Bella officially appointed as the new Director General.
Mariotti, who joined UCIMU in 1979 and became General Manager in 1992, played a pivotal role in elevating Italy’s machine tool industry both domestically and internationally. Over his tenure, he was instrumental in forging strategic connections among businesses, academic institutions, and policymakers, and contributed to the development of landmark industrial policies including Italy’s “Industry 4.0” plan.
He also strengthened UCIMU’s presence in global markets through the launch and expansion of flagship exhibitions such as BI-MU, Lamiera, and the Italian edition of EMO. Mariotti will continue to support the association’s trade fair activities moving forward.
Succeeding him is Davide Della Bella, who brings deep industry experience and a strong background in research, education, and trade promotion. Prior to this role, he served as Secretary of Fondazione UCIMU and Managing Director of CEU, EFIM, and SOFIMU—entities focused on sector research and international exhibitions. Della Bella also previously led ECOL-E, a key training consortium under Confindustria Lombardy.
“I am honored to take on this responsibility and build on the foundation laid by my predecessor,” said Della Bella. “My focus will be on enhancing the visibility of UCIMU and its members, strengthening our role in public policy discussions, and developing new services to support member growth in an evolving manufacturing landscape. Listening to our membership will be central to shaping the association’s future initiatives.”
UCIMU currently represents over 250 companies, accounting for approximately €7 billion in annual production. With this leadership transition, the organization reaffirms its commitment to innovation, international engagement, and industry advocacy.
