The six actions of President Sheinbaum's Plan Mexico to strengthen the electricity sector reinforce the sector's commitment to the energy transition and the modernization of the national system. As part of these actions, 6,400 MW of generation capacity is estimated to be allocated to private investment, with the vast majority expected to be developed through solar energy, taking advantage of the country's abundant natural resource.
Although the projections for the development of the electricity sector and the energy transition are being refined in accordance with the Energy Planning and Transition Law, the current National Electricity System Development Program (PRODESEN 2024-2038) proposes scenarios for the evolution of installed capacity with a greater participation of renewable energies and battery storage. In this sense, the actions of Plan Mexico promoted by the government reflect the aforementioned commitment to the energy transition and the commitment to clean technologies.
In this context, microgrids emerge as key solutions, operating in a connected or autonomous manner, these smart grids facilitate the integration of renewable energies, allow flexible demand management and a rapid response to contingencies, in addition to strengthening the stability of the system, especially in areas of difficult access or high demand points, and contribute to the goal of energy self-sufficiency in the country.
Together, these actions mark a decisive step towards a cleaner and more diversified energy matrix, positioning solar energy and microgrids as key elements to achieve self-sufficiency and reduce environmental impact. With these initiatives, Mexico strengthens its path towards a modern, sustainable and welfare-oriented energy transition.
