Trends in equipment and machinery for the packaging industry will be the focus of Expo Pack 2023

From June 13 to 15, in Guadalajara, more than 700 companies will participate with machinery and equipment in action. "There is no other place where this machinery can be seen in Mexico, because leading production countries such as Italy, Germany and the United States will be coming. With the topic of nearshoring, businessmen see a market opportunity to have machinery and inputs in Mexico to increase competitiveness in all sectors. In addition, the trends of Expo Pack 2023 in the market will be sustainability, automation and digitalization to be eco-friendly and profitable companies, offering better high quality products".

On the other hand, Celia Navarrete stressed that Mexico has a lag in women's issues in the manufacturing industry, therefore, in Expo Pack 2023 will be allocated opening forums to talk and highlight on the inclusion of more women in all sectors in order to inspire and attract more girls in STEM careers.

Jonás Murillo, general director of the National Chamber of the Food Canning Industry (Canainca), highlighted that the entire industry is linked to some type of packaging always.

"There are many packaging lines, we pack in cans, glass, cardboard or plastics so that the product arrives on time and everywhere. Canaica groups food processing companies, we process eight million tons of food per year and we have a production close to 280,000 million pesos, of which 15% goes directly to export, being our main market the United States with around 85% and the other 15% is distributed in Latin America and Europe".

Murillo emphasized that during the pandemic, investment in this industry did not stop. Although the entry of new machinery decreased, the maintenance of the same grew.

In his participation, Jorge Maquita, general director of the Mexican Association of Packaging (AMEE), commented that the packaging industry grew 3.4% last year, and this year four percent is expected. "It goes in terms of an organic growth with GDP, but somehow, the innovation trend will help more."

Packaging as such represents 1.4% of GDP nationally, and 9% of national manufacturing GDP. It is an industry that employs around 98,000 people nationwide, between the cardboard, wood, plastic, metal and glass sectors. The value of packaging production in 2022 was $21.28 billion.

"Packaging has a primary role in the sale of products, protection, and we are missing the part of experience as a producing country," Maquita concluded.

the packaging industry in Mexico has a 25% growth, compared to 2022, in demand for machinery and equipment for packaging and processing.

"In this edition of Expo Pack 2023, the market in which we are most interested in being present is the western region of the country, for the food and beverage industry, since only 20% of production takes place in Jalisco. As for the 25% growth, it is dictated by the issue of machinery replacement with innovation and automation; likewise, a 27% growth in production is expected in more than 40 productive sectors of the country."
